CLERGY ASSISTANCE, Ltd.
Clergy Assistance, Ltd. is a new 501c(3) organization dedicated to identifying, explaining & resolving the abuse of pastors, their families, & congregations through “The Clergy Killer Phenomenon.” Approximately one third of USA pastors have been forced out of a congregation at least once, through the malacious & persistant attacks of a very few members who use any false & evil methods to impose their will. Many of these “clergy killers,” have done this more than once.
Pastors & congregations are vulnerable to such devastating onslaughts because their professional role seems to require them to be tolerant, forgiving & non-offensive. They have been inadequately trained to manage serious conflict, develop a personal support system, or train their congregations to deal with malacious members. Their denominational officials seldom provide helpful counsel or support, choosing instead to believe the false innuendoes & finally to help in forcing the pastor to leave. Seminaries seldom teach pastors the realities of contemporary evil when it exists within a congregation. And the US legal system seldom intervenes in religious affairs.
This “deep dark secret of the church” is a major cause for 1500 clergy to leave pastoral ministry each month (Barna Research Group), & only one in five present pastors will remain in pastoral ministry long enough to reach the age of retirement.
